The tradition of the High Tea Gold Coast experience dates back to England in the late 1700s. At the time there were only two main meals served daily – breakfast and dinner. Dinner was served late in the evening, so High Tea was served in the late afternoon to keep England’s upper classes from suffering that ‘sinking feeling’ between meals.
Back then High Tea included thin crustless sandwiches, shrimp or fish pate, toasted breads with jams and pastries. The emphasis was on presentation and conversation – this still remains important today.
